Professional Bird Grooming & Health Services

At Petz Zone Crumlin, we understand that regular grooming and preventative health care are an important part of keeping your bird healthy and happy.

Our monthly Bird Clinic offers a range of routine grooming and health services for parrots and pet birds of all sizes, carried out by our experienced team in a calm, stress-free environment.

Whether you own a budgie, cockatiel, conure, quaker, African grey, Amazon, Eclectus, cockatoo or macaw, we're here to help.

Monthly Walk-In Clinic

Our Bird Clinic takes place on the last Saturday of every month.

No appointment is necessary.

Simply bring your bird along during clinic hours and we'll see you on a first-come, first-served basis.

This allows owners to drop in at a convenient time without needing to book in advance.

As the clinic can become busy, earlier arrival is recommended.

Our Services

Nail Trimming – £10

Birds naturally wear their nails down by climbing and perching, but many pet birds don't have enough natural surfaces to keep them at the correct length.

Overgrown nails can:

  • Become caught on toys, towels or clothing

  • Make perching uncomfortable

  • Increase the risk of broken nails

  • Cause pressure on the feet over time

Our team carefully trims nails to a safe, comfortable length while keeping stress to a minimum.

Wing Clipping – £10

Wing clipping is one of the most debated topics in bird keeping, and we appreciate that every owner has their own views.

At Petz Zone, we support responsible, ethical wing clipping when it is the right decision for both the bird and its owner.

A properly clipped bird should still be able to glide safely to the ground rather than fly at full height or speed.

Many owners choose wing clipping to reduce the risk of:

  • Flying into windows or mirrors

  • Escaping through open doors

  • Flying onto dangerous surfaces such as hot pans, fires or ceiling fans

  • Serious injuries caused by uncontrolled flight inside the home

A correct wing clip does not involve cutting into living tissue. We trim only fully grown flight feathers, which are made of keratin (the same material as human hair and fingernails) and do not contain nerve endings.

Growing "blood feathers" are never clipped, as these are still supplied with blood and are sensitive.

Our aim is always to maintain your bird's comfort while helping owners provide a safe home environment.

If you're unsure whether wing clipping is suitable for your bird, we're always happy to discuss the pros and cons before carrying out the service.

Beak Trimming – £10

A healthy bird will usually keep its beak in good condition by chewing natural branches, toys and other suitable materials.

Occasionally, a beak can become overgrown or uneven.

We carefully assess every bird before trimming.

If we believe an overgrown beak may be linked to an underlying health problem, we may recommend that your bird is examined by an avian veterinarian before any trimming is carried out.

DNA Sexing – £30

Many parrot species cannot be reliably sexed by appearance alone.

Our DNA sexing service provides an accurate way to determine whether your bird is male or female.

A small feather sample is collected safely and sent to a specialist laboratory for analysis.

Results are usually returned within a few weeks, and we'll contact you as soon as they arrive.

DNA sexing is particularly useful for:

  • Choosing names

  • Future breeding programmes

  • Behavioural understanding

  • Finding compatible companions

Avian Health Testing

We can also arrange laboratory health testing for parrots and other pet birds.

Testing can help screen for a range of common infectious diseases and is particularly useful for:

  • New birds joining an existing flock

  • Breeding birds

  • Birds showing signs of illness

  • Owners wanting peace of mind

Different tests are available depending on your bird's species and individual circumstances.

Please speak to a member of staff for current testing options and prices.

For the safety of all birds visiting our clinic, please avoid bringing birds that are showing signs of infectious illness unless this has been discussed with us beforehand.

Please Note
